Mumei 1.8

A really nice 1.8. Good quality work. Made on a smallish diameter piece of nicely mottled bamboo with a lovely curve.

This is a really sweet sounding flute, properly tuned. Plays up to Dai-Kan-no-Re easily with a good, solid Ro. Excellent flute for beginner to advanced student; for honkyoku, sankyoku, or minyo.

A couple of the holes have been filled in at the top to bring the pitch down. This has two, contrasting effects. On the one hand, it makes the flute quieter. Larger holes, bigger sound.

On the other hand, it improves the sound dramatically. Smaller holes mean a much more interesting sound. The holes aren't small enough to make the meri notes difficult to play (#1 is not filled at all).

You can see this in the pic of the thumbhole below. It has had the most filling. I know it's out of focus, but it does provide a sense of what was done to tune the flute.
