Two, jinashi, mumei, nobekan, kyusun (1.9s)

The darker of the flutes in the photos is an old Myoan flute
(Taisho or so, probably).

Nice, solid sound, and plays all the way up to Dai-Kan-no-Re.

Recently bound in the old style with the bindings above the
surface of the bamboo.

(No pics of the sides, as the flute is almost straight and doesn't
look appreciably different from any side).

Price $1100

The lighter of the flutes is an older Kinko flute. This has had
the mouthpiece replace at some point, but shows no evidence of
having ji added to the bore.

Like nobe #1, it has a nice solid sound. Plays up to Yon-no-Ha,
but won't quite make the higher Dai-Kan-no-Re.

And, as you can see from the side profile shots, the bamboo at the
root is a bit funky: shaved, Kinko-style on one side, root ends on
the other. Nice curve to it though.

Price: $950

For all intents and purposes, these are equal flutes. The darker
one is more money because of its age and visual aesthetics. The
lighter, Kinko one, is less money because it's not as pretty and has
had the mouthpiece replaced.

If you're looking for a flute to contrast with a 1.8, something for
more contempletive playing, with a darker, more honkyoku sound, either
of these 1.9s would be a nice addition to a flute bag.
