Hello,

This is a short message to the people on the Usenet History mailist.
This list has been pretty dead for several months now but I continue
to get requests to be added. I thought I would send out a message,
tell people about the archives and try to regenerate the discussion.

For those of you new to this list, there is an archive of past
traffic available via remote ftp, from this machine: weber.ucsd.edu,
login anonymnous. The diretory is ~ftp/pub/usenet.hist. In the
archive are the discussions from last fall, early usenet maps and
much of the recent "What is Usenet" discussion from news.admin.

I began the discussion because one of the chapters in my PhD
dissertation will be a history of the net. I return to the
discussion now because I am trying to write a draft of that chapter.
I would be especially interested in others who are writing such a
history and how would like to work cooperatively.

I am also interested in adding relevant materials to the archive.
Contributions welcome!
