if you type "ftp world.std.com" and get an error like "host unknown"
try this:

ftp 192.74.137.5

...this is the IP address for that host. If this happens to you, it
means your system administrator does not have a naming service running
on your machine. If you ask nicely, perhaps that person will add such
a service. it is a nice convenience.

sorry i can't give instructions for non-unix platform access to ftp!
