So very true.

And as an aside, the current intention here is to delete all of the naughty
pictures as of December 1, because I've decided that a company that relies
heavily on copyright protections shouldn't support groups where there is a
high proponderence of copyright piracy going on. Especially since there are
lawyers out sniffing around looking for people to sue (Playboy).

Funny thing is, I've been almost completely able to defuse the inevitable
censorship arguments over the decision. I expected major flamewars when I
posted my intentions locally and in alt.config. Mostly I've gotten support.
And comments from a few sites that evidently were waiting for someone stupid
like me to be point man who are going to do it, too.

Surprised the hell out of me. I walked out onto the stage after handing out
flamethrowers and screamed "burn me!" and got applause. You never know what
usenet is going to do. Wehn you think you understand it, rationality breaks
out, at least temporarily.

That was before I knew about the kiddie porn and the Cornell stuff, too.
Imagine a computer company with large sales in the K-12 market being
reported as distributing kiddie porn worldwide. No thanks.

Personally, I think the net's been tolerant of those groups far too long,
based simply on legal risks and benefit analysis, not to mention how much
effing disk space they use. It wouldn't surprise that this will change and
that in a year or so it'll be reduced to fairly isolated pockets, especially
if there are a few more high-profile busts and/or media events involving it.
