May 17- At the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens (see above), the 21st annual
Kenso-Kai (memorial-offering), will be held for the great Shakuhachi
Master Jin Nyodo...Only Honkyoku will be performed (no admission

May 30- At the Tenri Cultural Institute, there will be a very exciting and
interesting joint-recital entitled Cellohachi...It will feature Gideon
Freudmann on cello, and Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin on Shakuhachi..At this 7:15
PM performance they will play much of the music featured on their first CD
for GADFLY RECORDS, Sound of Distant Deer . Pieces will range from solo
to duet...from new compositions by Smaldone, Hidary, and Lependorf...and
from pieces ranging from traditional Honkyoku to Cellobop!!..a guaranteed

May 31- The Knitting Factory will present Cellohachi for two sets (8:00

July 21- An Evening of Traditional and Modern solo's and duets for
Shakuhachi and Cello at the Old Office entitled "Cellohachi"

Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin...

July 28- The first set (8:00 P.M.) will be played by two members of
the Traditional Japanese Music Ensemble of New York (the New York
Sankyoku-Kai).On Koto- Masayo Ishigure, and on Shakuhachi- Ronnie
Nyogetsu Seldin.
                The second set (at 9:30 P.M.), will bring our series to
a brilliant close with the acclaimed "Bamboo & Bone".. which has
appeared in many "fringe-festivals", and is a
        collaboration of poet/author/actress Mallie Boman and
        Shakuhachi master Allen Nyoshin Steir.

July 5-11- In Boulder ,Colorado, Shakuhachi enthusiasts will gather from
all around the world for the Second International Shakuhachi Festival...It

July 25 & August 1- are the dates for the Summer Beginning Shakuhachi
Workshop at Ki-Sui-An Shakuhachi Dojo...During this time (from 10:30
AM-3:00 PM), an entire Honkyoku will be taught..For further information

                                SOME RECENT RELEASES

Vol.1 of the latest solo Shakuhachi CD for Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin on
Lyrichord Discs has been released (LYRCD 7436). It is titled "ICHI
ON-BUTTSU" (One Sound......Enlightenment). You can purchase it from
Nyogetsu at (212) 818-0897, either phone or fax , or it can be found in
your local stores.

Vol. 2 (MAKOTO SHINJITSU....with a Heart of True Sincerity), has been
moved up for a Jone '98 release date...It is also all solo's by Nyogetsu,
and is composed of one 1/2 of the Cd being original compositions...The
accent on this CD is on Healing Honkyoku and "neo-Honkyoku"..

 GADFLY 506- " SOUND OF DISTANT DEER "- is a new release featuring solos
and duets, both traditional and modern, of Gideon Freudmann-Cello, &
Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin-Shakuhachi..As well as improvised pieces together,
the CD features new compositions for Cello and Shakuhachi by Smaldone,
Lependorf, and Hidary...
