Kurahashi's bay area residency update

Here is the most recent update for Kurahashi sensei's schedule

Still slots available for private lessons.

Schedule: (subject to some change. Please make sure to check your messages
the last couple of days before the residency to see if there were any
changes in locations or pieces for the master classes)

Note: Master class does not mean you have to be a master to attend. The
only master in the class will be sensei.
Students of any levels of experience are encouraged to take part in this
residency. Kurahashi sensei is a very inspiring teacher of both beginners
and more advanced players. He has been studying shakuhachi for over 40
years and has a profound knowledge of the instrument. This along with his
kind, spiritual and generous personality make him a very inspiring teacher!
This is his second residency in teh bay area this year. I can honestly say
that the results of his visit in February sent everybody's playing up a
couple of notches!

Everyone (including non shakuhachi players) is invited to observe any class
or private lesson free of charge.
We encourage you to observe the lessons and classes you are not taking part
in. Try to make the most of having this great teacher in town during his
short stay!
Sensei loves good food and good drink and we will show him some of the
great restaurants and watering holes on his lunch and dinner breaks and
after classes. Join us at these times for a very informal way to get to
know what a beautiful person Sensei is.

The content of the private lessons is entirely up to the student. Select a
piece that you are working on that you wish to go over with him. Recomend
that you select pieces from the Jin Nyodo linege of honkyoku repetoire or
sankyoku as that is what Kurahashi specialises in. Please send me your
preference for lesson time with a second and third choice. If you desire a
lesson but dont see an available slot that works for you, contact me with
your choices and we will work it into the schedule.

If there is an overwhelming demand for private lessons, more time can be added.

Addresses and directions:
Home of Nik Warren
1016 Spruce Street in North Berkeley
(510) 527-2935
From the 80 Freeway, exit at University Ave. Go East until it dead-ends
into Oxford Street at the UC campus. Turn
left (North) on Oxford and continue about five blocks to Rose St. Turn
right (East) on Rose, go one block to Spruce and turn left (North). [You
pass right by Robert Kehlmann's house.] Continue on Spruce up the hill. Go
past Eunice St. and Los Angeles St. (which have a stop signs). On the next
block, the house is directly across from the T-intersection of Keith and
Spruce, before coming to San Benito St.

To come up the hill via Marin Ave. from the Albany area, go past the
Arlington Circle (aka the Marin Circle) and take either Marin up to
Spruce and turn right, or Los Angeles up the hill to Spruce and turn left.

Nik's is a brown shingled house in on the downhill (West) side of the
street, set behind some trees and a fence. Make sure to check out the
beautiful waterfall that Nik has been working hard on in his backyard!

Home of Robert Kehlmann
2207 Rose Street in North Berkeley

From the 80 Freeway, exit at University Ave. Go East until it dead-ends
into Oxford Street at the UC campus. Turn left (North) on Oxford and
continue about five blocks to Rose St. Turn right (East) on Rose. Robert's
house is on the North side of Rose, in the middle of the block.

The lessons are in Robert's studio behind the main house. Walk in the front
gate, around to the left of the main house, and go down a short path. Pass
between the studio and house, onto the deck, pass the lemon tree and
rosemary bush and to the back door of the studio. Admire Robert's wonderful
glass art inside the studio.

the whole package deal of a one hour private lesson and all the master
classes you can handle is $150.

For those who want a less intensive study or for the incomely disadvantaged:
Each master class: $25

The concert costs 10 dollars and is not included in the previously
mentioned bargain. Clarion Music Center is handling that separately. Please
