Brenda & I would like to wish you all a wonderful New Years' and to give
you an update as to what is going on in our relevant organizations.. But
first, apologies to:

1-Those who are on more than one of our newslists, and will therfore
receive more than one copy of this email...

2-Those who have no particular interest in either Wildlife Rehabilitation,
and/or Shauhachi Recordings and Listings...

3-Everybody (!!), due to the rather unwieldy length of this email...

The New York City Center for Urban Wildlife Rehabilitation (NYCCUWR),
contiues to expand in new directions.. We are closing in on purchasing our
Upatate New York "annex" , which we call "Clear Mountain".. To this end we
are:

1- Continuing to write grants..
2- Holding our first RAFFLE ($1- per ticket, or $5- for a book of 6
Tickets)... Drawing will be on Feb. 20, 2000..
3- Holding our second annual Fundraising Event ( a gourmet vegetarian
dinner, with a silent auction, and live Brazillian Music & Dance)...

Jan. 22 & 29- will be the two dates for the Winter Intensive, at Ki-Sui-An
Shakuhachi Dojo.. They are one-day intensives for beginners of Shakuhachi,

Feb.1- is the beginning of the bi-annual USA teaching -intensive tours for

Feb. 5- will be the date for the 7th Annual Masters' Rectal of Ki-Sui-An
Shakuhachi Dojo..Performing will be licensed students (most of whom have
students of their own..And the guest performer will be Kurahashi
Yoshio-Sensei. It will be held at the Tenri Cultural Institute (see

March 4-8..are the dates for the annual trip to MEXICO for intensive
Shakuhachi work by Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin, and Tai Chi Chuan work by
Maggie Newman..In addition to being able to do one or both of these
studies, there is a "natural-healing" woman in the small village of
Erongaricuaro (where we stay, in the province of Michoacan), who offers

March 31- April 2- is the first of two 3-Day Honkyoku retreats, given at
the Rinzai Zen Buddhist monastery in Upstate New York named Dai Bosatsu

March 25 & April 9..will be the two days for the one-day Spring Intensive,

April 29 &30- are the two days that the Shakuhachi Dojo's of Ronnie
Nyogetsu Seldin (Ki-Sui-An), and James Nyoraku Schlefer (Kyo-Shin-An),
will take part in the Annual Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival), at
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.. There is a small entrance fee..

May 19-June 4 (inclusive)..are the dates for the Annual Japan-Trip by
Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin..Due to the popularity of this trip, and to the
fact that for everyone's enjoyment, Nyogetsu closes it off at 10 people,
the trip fills up quickly !!..While there will be concerts, and visits to
Shakuhachi makers, the trip is more often taken by people who just want to

June 14th-June 20th- Are the tentative dates for the second annual
Shakuhachi Camp, sponsored by the World Shakuhachi Society.. The

June 11- is the date for the 23rd Annual Kenso-Kai (Memorial Offering),

                        SOME RECENT SHAKUHACHI RELEASES

EMPTY BOWL (Sparkling Beatnik Records- SBR0010)..For the first time, other
than Jin-Sensei's own recordings, a CD has been recorded of Jin Nyodo's
version of Kinko-Ryu repertoire.. Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin has recorded this
repertoire on his second Sparkling Beatnik release, which differs from the
more-often recorded Tokyo-style Kinko-Ryu pieces, in that they are more
simpler and meditative in nature...

TRANCE III- (Ellipsis Arts-CD4330) .. This is the third of the
best-selling series for Ellipsis Arts.. On this recording, the first third
is "Japan", in which Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin plays a Zen-Honkyoku..The
second third is the African Mbira (thumb-piano), and the final third is
the Sundaese chanting of West Java..

Sounds of Healing- (Phillips International-E.G.I.9907CD)..is an
exceptional recording in which an oncologist, Dr. Mitch Gaynor, uses music
to cure serious diseases (like cancer)..In addition to his "guided
meditations", there are three ensemble pieces with Shakuhachi.
Synthesizer, Gongs, Tibetan overtone singing (high voice, as well as low
voice), Crystal Bowls, and Tibetan Bowls !!.

SAMURAI SPIRIT (Sparkling Beatnik Records...SBR0001), which features the
unusual, but strong "Komi-Buki" technique has been released by Ronnie
Nyogetsu Seldin. This CD includes the entire repertoire for the Neza-Sa-Ha
Honkyoku, as well as a new composition of Nyogetsu's- "Nakagawa
Yoshi-Sama".

Vol.1 of the latest solo Shakuhachi CD for Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin on
Lyrichord Discs has been released (LYRCD 7436). It is titled "ICHI
ON-BUTTSU" (One Sound......Enlightenment). You can purchase it from
Nyogetsu at (212) 818-0897, either phone or fax , or it can be found in
your local stores.

Vol. 2 of the LYRICHORD Set has been released (LYRCD 7443) ..It is
entitled MAKOTO SHINJITSU (With a Heart of True Sincerity), and primarily
deals with Honkyoku and "neo-Honkyoku" used for healing. About one-half of
the selections are original compositions by Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin. This
is also a solo CD.

 GADFLY 506- " SOUND OF DISTANT DEER "- is a new release featuring solos
and duets, both traditional and modern, of Gideon Freudmann-Cello, &
Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin-Shakuhachi..There are new compositions, as well, by
Smaldone, Hidary, and Lependorf.

 Komuso: The healing Art of Zen Shakuhachi (Relaxation Company)
        Solo CD of Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin..to be released in Feb. 2000

Music from Buddhism (Ellipsis Arts)...One selection will be the Zen
Shakuhachi by Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin (who is also co-producing this
ambitious project)..Late Spring release ..

Zan Getsu (Setting Moon) (LYRICHORD)..will be the long-awaited (20 years)
second recording of the New York Sankyoku-Kai (the Traditional Japanese
Music ensemble of New York)..The trio consists of Henry Horaku
Burnett,Sangen; Masayo Ishigure,koto; and Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin,
Shakuhachi...Early Summer 2000 release..
