Yoshi's Monday night

From: Philip Gelb (ryokan@wenet.net)
Date: Wed Jun 14 2000 - 19:10:04 PDT

Yoshi's Jazz Club and Japanese restaurant (Oakland)
Monday, June 19, 2000
$10

8 pm Philip Gelb - shakuhachi w/ Chris Brown - piano

9 pm Art Maxwell - flute, bass flute, shakuhachi w/ Jeff Feldstein -
guitar, Oilen Erich Hunt - bass, Eddie Marshall - drums, E. W.
Wainwright - percussion.

This is being billed erroneously as a Shakuhachi Improv summit. Trust
me, it was NOT my idea to call it that. Nonetheless good music with
shakuhachi at Yoshi's, one of the more elegant jazz clubs on the west
coast is not a common occurrence and i hope you come out to support
it!

The Chris Brown/Philip Gelb duet has been together for almost 5
years. They have developed an international reputation for their
shakuhachi/electronics duets. This is only the second time they will
perform as a shakuhachi/piano duet. They have performed at the
International Shakuhachi Festival, Muenster Neu Musik Festival,
Rollins College, Stetson University, City College of SanFrancisco and
numerous other venues. Their CD on Sparkling Beatnik has received
rave reviews in several languages.
