Inspiring email and a good wake up call. Your newfound relationship
with the shakuhachi brought about by your hand injury parallels what I
was told recently by a monk at Koukokuji (with Meian-ji this is the
oldest komuso temple in Japan). In the monk's view if one is interested
in "Zen shakuhachi playing" it is necessary to stop striving to improve
and play "great music." It seems to me that your injury has given you a
great opportunity to discover shakuhachi from "the inside out" rather
than the "outside in."
