Last Saturday, after four days of not being able to pick up
the shakuhachi, I finally breathed into the bamboo. The
myriad of emotions seemed to flow from my mind and body. I
felt the ground below my feet once again. I knew had to
share this feeling with my fellow denizens of Manhattan. I
immediately left for the Times Square subway station. Once
arriving in the long connecting tunnel from the west side
trians to the east side trians, I place down a white candle,
my bowl, and a "Think Peace" sign. Within thirty seconds of
blowing Amazing Grace, an older gentleman placed a dollar
into my bowl. A minute later, a young woman blew a soft kiss
from her hand. In the next two hours, I made more
connections with strangers than I ever had in my eleven
years as a New Yorker. The $31 I made will be go to the Red
Cross through my sister-in-law's office. They will double
the donation.

Peace, Perry
