Tony,

RO is the lowest note on all the shakuhachi lengths. But, it will be a
different pitch on each flute. On a 1.8 it's a "D" and on a 2.4 it's an
"A" etc. The names of the notes are the same: Ro, Tsu, Re, Chi, Ri,
Ro. Just the pitches will vary. So, Ro is the name of the root of the
scale. The intervals will always be the same, only the ptiches vary.
Spending some time with a piano helps.

of the traditional music, notation and history. I am deciding what playing
