Riley in Taos

To all,

This is a report of Riley Lee's recent adventure in Taos, NM. Thursday
evening he played a 'recital' in the lobby/bar of the Taos Inn. The Boy's
got game!

He hung in there amid the bar noise, wandering drunks, guests checking
in/out and passing curious strangers by playing duets with the bar blender
and not letting the blond at the third stool (who's story about her third
marriage was being broadcast to everyone in the building) interrupt Tsuru no
Sugomori. Waitpeople regularly scurried through carrying dinner orders.
What should have been a disaster wasn't as Riley and Patricia created and
anchored the calm eye of the storm. By the end people were actually
listening--amazing!

Friday evening at the community auditorium was a different story. The Concha
sisters did some Powwow numbers. Patrick Mirabal (Robert's brother) played
Indian flute with Riley and cellist Michael Kott. Riley finished up the show
with two honkyoko pieces and Tsuru no Sugomori--bringing down the house.

Nelson
