I rather welcomed Monty's post myself as well. Even though a non-comercial
list I think the community of people making and selling flutes is small
enough we would not be swamped with adverts anyway as some other lists might.

A brief explanation of the product or a makers new direction and a link to
investigate further looks like a helpful post in my opinion. On the other
hand a detailed sales list with prices posted on a daily or weekly basis
would certainly be going overboard I feel.

I may be unique in my opinions though because one odd thing I have noticed on
this particular group is the number of unsubscribe notices received as soon
as there are more than a few posts a day. Maybe other members really don't
want to receive this kind of info.

When I first joined the list I posted and asked several questions a week and
saw quite a few complaints as to the number of e-mails generated.
People left the list as it was "too busy". Even the survey taken as to
whether the replies should default to group or individual settings resulted
in people complaining about the quantities of mail and again leaving the
group. I kind of felt this was a sort of "private club" for a select group of
players and newbies to the group were not that welcome. I have become a
lurker now more than a participant because of that and have given thought to
a group specifically for those new to the Shakuhachi or those not studying
"serious" music.

Just my thoughts,
Tony Miller
