I wanted to add, but forgot, that PVC is considered to be a very acceptable
medium for shakuhachi. So much so, in fact, that Monty Levenson, one of the
formost shakuhachi makers in the world today, has opened a line of beginner
shakuhachi in 3/4 in PVC.
