Hi all.
Having just finished reading Nelson Zink's interesting article "Take a =
breath" 24/8, I have tried his test of diaphragm strength using his =
method of lifting up liquid through a tube using the diaphragm. I was =
alarmed to see that I only achieved 600mm. Nelson thought that =
1000-1200mm is ideal for Shakuhachi players . I then got to thinking, =
could it be my asthma, as asthmatics often breath in the upper chest. I =
have started Nelson exercises to strengthen the diaphragm and finding an =
immediate benefit. My question, is there any Shakuhachi players with =
asthma that could give information on what they do for exercises and so =
improve their breath control. Riley Lee's breathing workshop which I =
attended awhile ago is one that I did get immediate benefit from.=20
Breathing deeper.
