Carlos, buy Monty Levinson's nifty little book, "The Japanese Shakuhachi
Flute" - he tells, among other things, how to pour the lacquer down inside
the flute, etc. However, also, for what it's worth, Mejiro sells brushes
for painting inside the bore.

Assuming this can be easily colored, what method of coating would you
advise? Do you pour the stuff down the shak and sorta roll it around or do
you use some type of a long handled brush? As you've probably figured out by
now.. i'm a newbie to the mailing list and just trying to find help
(anywhere!) on how to make shakuhachi. There's just not much out there.

I guess it's been a while since I painted cars (ca. 1982).

What about polyurethene? The stuff I put on my hardwood floors
would certainly be suitable for a shak bore. All you'd need is
to color it somehow. And it would only take about three of four
coats to build up 3/16 of finish if you didn't thin it.
