I think the link was supposed to be:

www.shakuhachi.ws/photos.htm

Gene... Thanks for posting your page. I, also, have been spending =
countless hours per day, immersed in working on a couple of root end =
Madake flutes (one being plastered, one jinashi). After building a few =
out of Franks $4 stock a few months ago, I moved into the good stuff =
(thanks Monty :). The ones I received from "Franks" were a little small =
in diameter, but dense, and very workable... and "one" turned out well. =
They gave me a chance to practice the Ut inlays, and gave room for a ton =
of other mistakes I have avoided, and hope to avoid, on my better stock. =
Out of sheer luck, the bore taper was absolutely perfect on one of the =
cheapos, and it needed only a few sweet spot adjustments to get a nice =
balance, strong tonality, and perfect intonation, including the 3rd =
octave. Having now worked on the Madake for a while, I realize how =
extremely, very, considerably, absolutely, frighteningly LUCKY I was, on =
that one!!! These two better ones are proving a great challenge, but =
teaching me much. One thing I learned right out of the gate, with the =
cheaper stuff, was to be very precise in cleaning/shaving the interior =
nodes, as not to pit any of the surrounding walls, especially if making =
a jinashi... "Do not plant flower with tractor, grasshopper". :)

If possible, please keep adding pics and things to your page... any info =
is good to have as a resource, and may be of benefit to many.

Thanks!

:)

Derek

Okay Duke, I've complied with your request - and then some.

At the bottom of www.shakuhachi.ws/photos/htm, there's a photo of =
three culms. One cost $230 and the other two were $3.95 each.

  Take a look!
