Kinya Sogawa devotes some space, on his web site, to describing the =
utaguchi inlay he sometimes uses, and you can see pictures and read =
about it at http://www.fides.dti.ne.jp/~sogawa/englishpage3-1a.html.

And I realize his name is Kinya.

However, concerning the "Kinya" inlay, he writes:

"The utaguchi (mouthpiece) insert is in Kinya-style, based on a style =
predating both Kinko and Tozan styles, combining design and function in =
a way that protects and enhances the beauty of bamboo."

And, if this Kinya style "predates" Kinko and Tozan", it patently is not =
his own design, but that from a very old period of time.

Can anyone tell me about this "Kinya-style" mouthpiece "insert", as he =
calls it?

Was there a truly a Kinya-ryu antecedent to Kinko-ryu? My research =
tells me there was a "Kenya-ryu", but that may be a misspelling?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Gene
