This is in response to Brets query about Nishimura Koku sensei.
If it is the same Koku sensei I am thinking of, he lived in Kumamoto, Japan
which is where I live. I had the pleasure of meeting him at his house about
two years before he passed away. All of his deshi referred to their
instruments as kyotaku. They were typically jinashi 2.8. made in one piece.
The instruments that he made himeself were very ornate in way of intricate
inlay design. I have one jinashi 2.4 that was made and given to me by his
deshi named Agar who now lives somewhere in Nagano. Though I many times saw
Koku sensei around town (very destinctive and recognisable -long white hair
and beard) I was never aware of any recordings of his. I will ask around to
see if indeed any exist. I'll post my findings.
