Scott, as with the books referenced which I read, I have listened to all of the tapes. I only make recommendations from first hand experience. I found the tapes to be worthwhile; "as good as they say" is asking for a subjective answer from me regarding an evaluationof others' comments. And it has no meaning to go there.

I recommend that if you research on the Internet further details for these tapes and Kay Gardner(bio, discography, papers, etc), you will be able to be in a better position to judge whether these tapes will satisfy your requirements and what you are looking for. I believe that what we experience or research or practice & learn we truly make our own.

BTW, this series of cassette tapes is offered for a signficant discount at www.buy.com The last time I checked the set was 37.77 plus shipping etc.

As I mentioned before, these references made a difference/contribution for the work & what I am involved in. Only you can say if they would be or are worthwhile for you. Some of the books & possibly the tape series may be available at your local library or used bookstores as well. That would be an alternate path for you to explore. If you learn/absorb better visually/ by reading written word, I recommend Sounding the Inner Landscape, another reference I already listed. Other members of this group have shared additional rsources, great books to consider. There is no one book or set of cassette tapes that is the ulitmate authority and end all in this arena, in my opinion. That would be similar to!
finally finding the Unified Field Theory of the Universe for Physics expressed elegantly & succintly at last.

There are many excellent resources. You have a good listing to get started with.

May your journey go well.

Books in this field range from informative and intriguing to utter wastes of time. >I just read a great one, though it's not about healing specifically. It's called "Nada Brahma: the World is Sound", by Joachim_ernst Berendt. It ranges from discussions of physics to jazz to "non-western" music. Not light reading, but very rewarding. >Scott McDonald > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Lynne Nicholson > To: Shakuhachi@communication.ucsd.edu > Sent: Monday, Decemberr 01, 2003 9:54 AM > Subject: Re: Some interesting books... and here are a few more > > > Thanks, Phil, and here are a few more: &g!

For before music was entertainment, it was a primary source of healing and a sublime connection to the divine. On Music as Medicine, you will survey every dimension of this most sacred art, and learn to apply the healing power of music to your own life. You will join composer and teacher Kay Gardner as she explores healing music, from its rich past in cultures worldwide to its present and future application in clinics and research centers and homes everywhere. > > Gardner teaches you the major elements and techniques within the science of sound healing, and explains how they are used to "entrain" (or synchronize) the human body to harmonize with the hidden vibrations of the universe. She!
unravels mysteries of music's therapeutic role through the ages, and
shares new research into how sound vibrations affect the chakras and auric fields that surround us. The result is this 12-session curriculum - complete with exercises - on every phase of Gardner's pioneering system for creating melodies, rhythms, and harmonies with the power to heal. > > You need no previous musical experience to benefit from the exercises on Music as Medicine. Kay Gardner makes it easy to understand harmonics, wave theory, entrainment, toning, and more. She details their roles in the science of musical sound, and offers practical methods for making melodies that can support the body's own healing strategies at a cellular level. Now, for the first time, everyone - from beginners to professionals - can create their own unique, healing "prescriptions" based on Gardner's music healing system. If you can make sound and feel vibrations, you have the natural power to help yourself and others, with Music as Medicine. Over eight hours of fascinating, informati!
