Please allow me to interrupt briefly here: My son, Gene III - =
admittedly only after incessant Christmas-stocking hinting - gave me a =
copy of Riley Lee's voluminous but masterfully exciting thesis, =
"YEARNING FOR THE BELL: A STUDY OF TRANSMISSION IN THE SHAKUHACHI =
HONKYOKU TRADITION."

If you love the shakuhachi - and I do - you won't be complete until you =
have devoured this thesis! By happenstance, I happen to be a current =
international bestselling author myself, my last published book has sold =
some 3/4 million copies in five languages - but I dearly wish I had =
written Lee-san's thesis instead!

Get it and read it!

Gene

  Hello Shirley.

I don't know much about Okamoto the person, but I quoted extensively =
in my thesis an article he wrote fairly recently for the publication, =
Ichi On Jobutsu:

  Okamoto Chikugai ????=20
  1983 "About =C3=94sh=C3=BB Reibo" (????????, =C3=94sh=C3=BB reibo ni =
tsuite), Ichi on j=C3=B4butsu, 5(June 1):2-22

If you can read/write Japanese, it wouldn't be hard to find out more =
about him; Professor Tukitani Tuneko at Osaka University of Fine Arts =
would be one person who would know more about him; she told me about his =
article.

  Best regards, Riley
