The most effective way for me has been to use the embrochure. As Kaki-sensei
taught, the more you close the space between the utaguchi and your lips, the
more the pitch goes down.

One way as Tim mentioned is to bend the head down - but another is to put
more of your lips into the flute. The lower one particularly works well for
me. I don't think that it will ever be loud, but if the pitch is right on,
it seems to resonate more clearly.

The other technique that I've experimented with from observations of other's
playing is to widen my embrouchure - sort of making it a very flat
rectangle. If don't properly, I've noticed that my Ro-dai-meri becomes more
potent (but not necessarily louder). This same technique but with a bigger
rectangle has also helped me with muri-iki - though it seems that everyone
does muri-iki differently.

As kaki-sensei once said (I'm paraphrasing here), if you only try one way,
you're going to be trying for a very long time.
