You're right in sensing that the listener hears a different sound than the
performer, Stav. The performer's position differs from the listener's in
relation to the shakuhachi's sound projection pattern, and the performer's
inter-cranial resonance differs from close proximity.

Your microphone placement will be more important than your choice of
equipment. Experiment with the best sonic environment, best placement
within that environment to record, how far away and from which direction to
place the microphone. Record, listen, adjust; record, listen, adjust,
... Your ears are your most important equipment.
