Another group of professional shakuhachi players looked down on because of
their social status (as opposed to their abilities) are non-Japanese,
especially those teaching and performing in Japan. How about a panel
discussion of this problem at the Sydney festival in 2008? How about
concert in which anonymous performers play behind a screen and the audience
votes "Japanese" or "non-Japanese"? This would bring up many interesting
issues.
