[Shaku] Okuda Atsuya's visit to the San Francisco Bay Area

Dear shakuhachi lovers.

I am proud to announce that the world renowned ji-nashi shakuhachi master=
=20
(and my teacher), Okuda Atsuya is coming to the San Francisco Bay Area.
He will give a concert on November 10, 8 pm at the Concert Hall in the Mi=
lls=20
College Campus in Oakland. All the details are pasted below.
Okuda is not only an amazing ji-nashi shakuhachi player, which is a rare=20
species, but also an interesting and kind man. He has a background as a=20
professional jazz trumpeter before he turned to the ji-nashi shakuhachi, =
has=20
read a lot of Zen literature and know a lot about music in general.
If the shakuhachi interested in the Bay Area or shakuhachi enthusiasts=20
passing by wants to meet him, we have an informal workshop/get together a=
t=20
my place on Tuesday November 9, at 8 pm.
You can ask him all the questions you may have (translations provided by=20
myself for those who need) and try his (and my) ji-nashi shakuhachi.

[a concert of ji-nashi shakuhachi playing]

Atsuya Okuda is renowned as a ji-nashi shakuhachi master. The ji-nashi=20
shakuhachi is the ancient shakuhachi where there is no lacquer and plaste=
r=20
in the bore, allowing the listener to hear the sound of pure bamboo. Okud=
a=20
plays shakuhachi up to 3,4 shaku (exceeding a meter).

Okuda will play an improvisation, Nerisaji, Honte no Shirabe, Betsuden Ts=
uru=20
no Sugomori and Futaiken Reibo.

Wednesday, November 10, 8:00 p.m.
Admission to this concert is free. Donations welcome.
