Hey Brian,
Thanks for the review. Your lucid description of the
events brought me there. You also bring up some
interesting points about shakuhachi in Japan and
outside the pond.
When I did my shakuhachi sojourn two years ago, I saw
so many exciting things happening with the shakuhachi
both from the zen approach and the modern, I went to a
Komuso Society gathering at Hosenji one day and then
to a pop group doo woping with koto and shakuhachi the
very next evening in Shinjuku.
It's great to see that someone like Okuda san is
exploring the depths of quietude when the current wave
seems to be moving toward loudeness.
As you know, I am a huge fan of Choukan. I prefer
these over the 1.8 jairi when playing for myself. I'll
be looking for some huge pieces of bamboo to pick in a
couple of weeks. Wanna join me?
