Hi Scott,

A hole is "Te ana" or "Shukou".

Te or Shu = a hand
Ana or Kou = a hole

These words are described by the same Kanji characters.

What is "the opening at the end"? If the bottom of shakuhachi, it's
"Kanjiri".

Kan = a pipe
Jiri or Shiri = the bottom (directly an ass)

Good luck,

Shigeru

Can anyone out there tell me the Japanese word for the holes on a
shakuhachi, and also the term for the opening at the end?
Thanks,
Scott
