Another interesting book is Hazrat Kahn's the Mysticism of sound and music. I found it on the Shambala web page. www.shambala.com.

I have had no trouble when travelling. I was in Austin two years ago when the terrorist alert level was raised and they only asked me what was in the bag. Last year I was asked to take it out of the bag and then play it. When in Newark airport I've had no trouble at all.

go figure...........

A. Mathieu's work >Date: Fri, 21 Jan 2005 08:24:10 -0800 (PST) > > >In addition to *The Listening Book* and *Harmonic Experience*, >(www.metroactive.com/papers/sonoma/09.11.97/books-music-9737.html >Mathieu, pianist and composer, has written a book called *The >Musical Life*, which explores the notion that being musical doesn't >really have, > > to do with knowing how to play an instrument or to sing in tune. > It is, he says, "a way of being aware, an angle of perception, > a tilt of the ear.
>(www.spiritualityhealth.com/newsh/items/bookreview/item_7033.html) > >His books are exceptional journeys into what it is to be involved >with music as a way of life, and how to make music more a part of >life. > >And his interest in Sufi Islam, mysticism, music, and the poetry >of Rumi, will make for comfortable reading for those of you interested >in the spiritual and zen aspects of the shakuhachi. But even >without that stuff, his work deserves a spot on anyone's bookshelf, >musician, shakuhachi player, or not. > >bj > >- >_____________________________________________ > >List subscription information is at: > http://communication.ucsd.edu/shaku/listsub.html
