Hi.

I was asked what I disliked about Japanese culture and
I answered. Is it evil to have an opinion? My answer
was a rhetorical device. I do not apologize.

The flute as an artifact is first found in caves. So
we could say, you play a flute which originated among
cavemen and therefore you should adopt their culture.
I doubt that you are going to stop bathing, shaving
and living indoors. Nor will you acquire a mate by
raiding the next tribe and carrying him/her off.

I also play the Boehm flute. I have a flute from
1915. Should I admire 1915 US culture? It was openly
racist as well as the other adjectives I have
mentioned. I do not admire that culture either.

I am a consumer. I bought a shakuhachi. I do with it
as I please. I do as I must at work because they pay
me. If you want to tell me what to do, give me a
salary and I will comply. Otherwise, leave me alone.

Regards,

John Baker
