Hey Zeb,
I have a couple of suggestions. One is for Monty Levenson's
flutes at http://www.shakuhachi.com/. The advantage is that his
flutes are affordable and don't crack (usually). The other
suggestion would be to contact David Sawyer who sells Bonchiku
flutes at http://www.japanshakuhachi.com/.
I like the tone of Bonchiku flutes much more than Monty's.
David has more flutes than he puts up on the web site so tell
him what you're looking for and see what he says. I almost
bought a Bonchiku but settled on a Japanese flute that my
teacher brought back from Japan.

The best suggestion I can give is to find a teacher and let
him/her guide you in a flute selection. Are you anywhere near
Denver?

Best,
Cindy Gaston
