On july 2 I played my shakuhachi at an art gallery
that was opening up in my hometown. I brought 20
flutes that I made from bamboo and rivercane. I
played for 2 hours. I only know 3 japanese songs and
I didnt even play them. I simply played whatever came
out. about 70 people came and everyone liked my
playing. a few people wanted to buy some of my side
blown flutes because they said end blown is too hard.=20
I also brought my djembe drum. my best friend and
fellow flute player was there with me. We took turns
playing so that we wouldnt tire out and on occasion we
played together. when we played with eachother we
used a style that I call question and answer. For
instance I might play and when I run out of breath he
would answer by playing something that
matched/answered what I played. very good time.=20
someone recorded bits and peices of our playing on
their cell phone so they could show their friends. It
was a confidence builder since I dont have a teacher
to help me out I dont know how good I sound. It felt
good to have people like my playing. All I know is
that I love the flute and I cant stop playing everyday
even if I wanted to stop. =20

p.s. any friendly people interested in teaching a
poor(money poor) person let me know. I can only repay
ya with gratitude and dedication.

cheers,
jason
