Maybe another way of looking at pitch [and hence the reason as to why
accurate pitch is important, even if transitory] is to study it from the
culturally/ideologically agnostic angle of psychoacostics and perception
- so as to gain a sense of why pitch is important in terms of our brains
pattern detection capabilities.

While our technology has evolved rapidly over the last couple of
thousand years our brains have evolved a lot slower...in some cases not
at all (politicians?:-) [though there is emerging evidence that the
recent evolution of saturated electronic media overload is effecting
some cognitive changes, especially in the young]
