Hi All,
Atsuya Okuda will be coming once again to the Bay Area. He will be in
Berkeley from August 4th - August 14th.
Okuda-san will be giving a hocchiku (jinashi shakuhachi) performance
at Vara Healing Arts on Sunday, August 6th at 7:00PM. Vara Healing
Arts, located in a converted church in El Cerrito, is a wonderful
space, perfect for Okuda's deeply evocative playing. Fine tea and
Japanese snacks will be served.
Tickets are $20
Last years concert sold out quickly so please call to reserve your
spot. It promises to be an intimate evening of gorgeous music.

Directions
Vara is conveniently located in Albany, right in the middle of
Berkeley, Kensington and El Cerrito where an easy travel through the
tunnel or an exit off the highway can be taken. We are at 850 Talbot
Avenue is just North of Solano Avenue in Albany. Talbot Avenue is
four blocks East of San Pablo Avenue, two blocks before the BART tracks.
Directions to Vara from I-80/580:
Take the BUCHANAN ST. / ALBANY Exit
Take BUCHANAN ST. to SAN PABLO AVE. (Arco on corner)
Turn Left and continue on SAN PABLO AVE. to second traffic light
Turn Right on SOLANO AVE.
Four blocks up turn Left on TALBOT AVE.

In addition to this performance, Okuda-san will be giving individual
lessons. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn from a master player
about the intricacies of jinashi playing. Notation of pieces will
accompany the lessons. Lessons will be held in Kensington, CA.
Days available for lessons are: August 4th, 7th, 9th and 14th.
