I understood "concert quality" to mean

*great tone color and dynamic range
*ease of playing

I think it was Yehudi Menuhin, who when asked what's the difference between
an Amati and a pawnshop violin, replied that he had to work harder to play
the pawnshop violin. Yamaguchi Goro once loaned me his fabled up-do
shakuhachi for a few weeks and I was amazed how easily the ro-no-tsumeri
spoke.
