Greetings.

Though an official announcement of the "Rockies Down Under"
Shakuhachi Camp is imminent, we have been receiving an increasing
number of inquiries about the Camp. Thus this preliminary bulletin.

Many of you may not yet be aware that the 10th Annual Shakuhachi
Summer Camp of the Rockies will immediately precede the World
Shakuhachi Festival 2008. Only this time, it won't be in the summer
and it won't be in the Rockies!

The "Rockies Down Under" Shakuhachi Camp will be held from the
morning of 2 July 2008 until late afternoon 4 July 2008, at the same
venue as WSF08, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM).

Out of town participants need to be in Sydney from 1 July.

The Camp will be organised along the lines of all of the Rockies
Camps and will end just in time for registration/opening ceremonies
for WSF08, also at SCM.

The Camp will be nearly three full days of hands on lessons,
workshops, and master classes. The focus is on learning to play (or
play better) the shakuhachi by blowing into one's flute. In contrast,
WSF08 is mainly about learning through listening and observing.
Though there will be master classes, open-mic concerts and many other
opportunities to playing, much of each day during WSF08 will be spent
attending concerts, recitals, lecture/demonstrations, etc.

There are a relatively limited number of places for Camp
participants. Priority will be given to people who have previously
attended the following shakuhachi intensives:

Shakuhachi Summer Camp of the Rockies (1999-2007)
Australian Shakuhachi Festivals (1999-2006)
Hawaii Shakuhachi Festivals (2004-2006)
European Shakuhachi Summer Schools (2006-2007)

Priority will also be given to 'Absolute Beginners', who will also
receive a discount on their registration fee. Registration costs will
be announced in the official "Rockies Down Under" notification, but
will be approximately the same as previous years (ie a bargain!)

Those of you who haven't attended any of the above events or who
aren't ABs should put your name down early. More info as to how to do
that will be coming soon.
