Hello All.

Bill Schultz has put together some WSF08 special airfare deals for
USA/Canada participants. Some of you receiving this are in Europe and

Here is the explanation from Bill:

Our festival deal for individuals and groups is finally in place.

For individuals and groups less than 20:
Using a special email address: SHRTUSQFCONF@qantas.com.au
All interested US and Canadian participants (individuals or groups
less than 20 people) should send their requests detailing their
preferred itinerary and travel dates along with the names of all
accompanying passengers.

By return e-mail, Qantas will provide a sample itinerary along with
total costing. Qantas will then hold the reservations for 7 days.
If the festival participant opts to use the proposed itinerary, he /
she would then provide credit card payment details to Qantas and then
Qantas will issue the tickets.

This special conference fare pricing from Qantas is a 14% discount
form their economy (V class) pricing. Currently, for example,
roundtrip flights from either Los Angeles or San Francisco to Sydney
are $1348.00 plus fuel surcharge and taxes of approximately $350.00.

I suggest that participants also check pricing at the Qantas website:
www.qantas.com because of the possibility of a lower price.

Also, each participant traveling to Australia will need a travel VISA.
There is a website: http://www.eta.immi.gov.au where you may obtain
an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) travel VISA, good for three
months in Australia and it costs AUS$20.00.

For Groups of 20 or more people, traveling on the same Qantas flight and
dates:
The process for groups of 20 or more is a bit cumbersome because only
one person can act as an intermediary between the group and Qantas.
All money must be collected by this person and a single payment made
to Qantas. A $100.00 deposit per person will allow Qantas to block
the necessary number of needed seats. Each person will also incur an
additional $25.00 fee for ticketing by Qantas. Anyone interested or
able to coordinate a group of 20 or more should contact Bill Schultz
shozan@prodigy.net to be walked thru the process with Qantas.

A sample of Group pricing (20 or more people, cost per person). And
remember, these prices can change:
A group of 20 or more people traveling together on the same Qantas
flight and dates for the itinerary: Los Angeles or San Francisco to
Sydney and return to LAX or SFO.
The net fare is USD$1262.00 (Taxes and fuel surcharges are an
additional USD$310.60)

For the itinerary: New York to Sydney to New York.
The net fare is USD$1606.00 (Taxes and fuel surcharges are an
additional USD$310.60)

I hope that this will make the travel costs to Australia a bit more
bearable
and also encourage many more to participate in this years shakuhachi
festival.

I will be available, as needed, to help any US or Canadian group
coordinators in their dealings with Qantas.

Sincerely, Bill Schultz
