Dear shakuhachi brethren,

*Music in a new world: America's ethnic traditions*, a series of
programs originally broadcast on public radio in the US, is now
available free online for personal and teaching use. Shakuhachi devotees
might be especially interested in the Japanese and Persian music
programs. The Japanese program features Taiko Dojo "martial arts" music
(San Francisco) and koto/samisen/voice with KAMATA Reiko and Yoko Gates
(Connecticut). The Persian music is predominantly Sufi-flavored,
beginning with brief aphorisms on the state of mind and self-discipline
required to perform this music, comparing it to the Zen-like mindset of
a Japanese urushi master.
