I know that some of you probably got this message, but I didn't see
all of the addresses on the shakuhachi list, so I thought I'd
forward it to everyone. Appologies for the additional traffic for
those of you who have already gotten a copy.

PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE WORLD SHAKUHACHI FESTIVAL 1998
The dates for the WORLD SHAKUHACHI FESTIVAL '98 have been set for July 5th
(Sun) to July 10 (Fri), 1998. The main sponsor and venue for this festival
is the College of Music, University of Colorado, located at the foothills
of the Rocky Mountains in Boulder, Colorado.
As the first large-scale international shakuhachi congress to be held
outside of Japan, it will provide a musical and academic focus for
performers, students, scholars and fans of the shakuhachi. Join us as the
hauntingly beautiful sounds of this instrument reverberate through the
grand environs of the Rocky Mountains as shakukhachi lovers congregate from
around the world for six days of study and play.
Special guests will include some of the most venerated shakuhachi masters
from Japan (Reibo Aoki, Araki Kodo, Kawase Junsuke, Goro Yamaguchi, Hozan
Yamamotoand Katsuya Yokoyama), along with a large gathering of shakuhachi
teachers and performers from around the world.
The cost (at present--this could change a bit however) is expected to be in
the range of $550. This will include room (dormitory style) & food for the
6 days and all festival events (master classes, lectures, symposiums,
concerts, etc).
More detailed information--including actual costs, how to apply and
festival content will be forthcoming, so please be patient for a little
while longer. This announcment is to let you know that the festival is
REALLY GOING TO HAPPEN and give you plenty of time to mark your calendars.
I know that we might not have everybody's e-mail addresses, so please forward
(whether by electronic or conventional means) this information along to
people who might be interested, and please share with us e-mail address of
people who might like to be included in the information loop.
Sincerely yours,
World Shakuhachi Festival Organization Committee
