I just came across a cd in Ameoba, the amazing store in Berkeley by a
shakuhachi player named Hiroshi Kobayashi. WHO IS THIS GUY?????
It says on the cover, shakuhachi solos, but there are parts on here that
are overdubbed.
The cd is called "inspirations" and is on a spanish label called musica
secreta. It is recorded in Barcelona so perhaps Kobayashi-san lives in
Spain.
It sounds mostly improvised and i have to say is one of the most intriging
shakuhachi recorings i have heard in a long time. He has very excellent
control of many extended techniques like multiphonics and split tones. Nice
to hear yet another shakuhachi player interested in experimental music!
