Dear Bruce and fellow Shakuhachi-enthusiasts,

There were many special and wonderful moments at the festival...
i'll start the ball rolling, and mention a few that will be most memorable
for me..

First, it would be remiss not to mention that the festiaval could not have
happened without the "Herculean" efforts of David Wheeler, Cory Sperry,
and Chris Bleisdel... Much appreciation goes out to the three of them..

Special moments (for me):

1-While all of the evening concerts were fantastic, the Thursday evening
one in Denver waqs one of a kind..I feel that my generation will never
have the opportunity to see its equal..When Aoki Reibo-Sensei broke down
at the end, I think we all "lost it" with him..This concert was "what its
all about".

2-I felt priveleged to have many of my licensed students (all of whom had
been invited to perform at the Festival), all together, to perform the
only "completely MEIAN concert " at the Festival..They were:

Myself:NY
James Nyoraku Schlefer:NY
Allen Nyoshin Steir:NY
Jeff Nyofu Lependorf:NY
Barry Nyosui Weiss:Calif.
Phil Gelb: Calif.
Stan Richardson: Texas
Bob Seigetsu Avstreih: Colorado

As you can see , it would have been very difficult for me to gather all of
these players from around the country...

3-Very special to me after this Concert were the older Japanese men who
told me that we are "truly playing MEIAN style correctly , and that they
had somewhat lost it in Japan..

4-And the Japanese gentleman who remembered my performance of my piece in
Bissei 4 years ago, with the"bell" in one hand , and the Shakuhachi in the
other...

5-A parental pride at seeing the excellent level of performance of my
students that I've taught for over the past 1/4 century..

6-Being blown away by some special performances other than the big
five..Notably Takahashi-Sensei , and Zenyoji (neza-Sa-Ha)..

7-Having the opportunity to teach students (and grandchildren students)
that live far away from New York...These students are usually taught by
cassette..

8-Personal relationship enhancements..In my case 3 stand out:
Barry Nyisui Weiss- It was very important for me to have Barry (my
oldest student) performing again next to me
Monty Levenson- (and his wife Kayo-San)- Always the sweetest
man in the Shakuhachi world in the USA, Monty and his wife
continued to help my unselfishly, at every turn, and in
every way that they could..God Bless them both...
John Neptune Kaizan- Hung with John, got close, and feel that in
addition to his warm humanity, John can do things on the
Shakuhachi , that no one (Japanese or Ameriacan) can do !!

9-I could go on (and I generally do!), but I'm interested in hearing some
highpoints from other people...

Take Care,
Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin
