Hi--
Sparkling Beatnik Records is proud to announce its first two CD releases:
Solstice Spirit by James Nyoraku Schlefer
Samurai Spirit by Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin
Solstice Spirit presents original and traditional music performed by
Western composer and shakuhachi virtuoso James Nyoraku Schlefer, who has
been called "a master of the shakuhachi" by The New York Times. The CD
includes several honkyoku, a composition by Fukuda Rando, and two of
Nyoraku's own works including an extended suite for an orchestra of 18
variously-sized shakuhachis.
Samurai Spirit is Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin's eleventh commercial recording.
It features the entire Nezasa-ha repertory. Nezasa-ha pieces are rarely
performed and unusual in that they utilize an unusual panting breath
technique known as "komibuki." The music is meditative and energizing at
the same time, and Nyogetsu's commited playing is ideally suited to this
style. The CD also includes a bonus track: a new original composition by
Nyogetsu.
We are also proud to announce that Sparkling Beatnik will be releasing the
first CD by the well-known Kyoto-based shakuhachi master Kurahashi Yoshio.
We are recording it in late February, and it should be out by April.

Best wishes,

Valves." Please see the Web site (www.sparklingbeatnik.com) for more details.
