In the SanFrancisco Bay area, many shakuhachi players are gathering
together to share knowledge of shakuhachi music. Inspired in part by the
recent residency that Kurahashi Yoshio sensei gave here last month, we are
planning to meet monthly, in part but not limited to:
1. share and teach each other repetoire
2. share written materials in english and japanese
3. give beginners experience in performing in front of others
4. provide each other access to the knowledge of the different schools and
lineages that we are studying under.
5. to enjoy each others approach to this incredible instrument
The first meeting will be this sunday, march 7 at 7 pm at Robin
Hartshorne's beautiful house in North Berkeley.
We will discuss plans for this study group, plan for future residencies (we
are thinking of Riley Lee this summer and definitely will host Kurahashi
sensei again next winter!)
We will also begin a review of the master classes that Kurahashi sensei
gave here. This meeting we will review Jimbo San'ya.
All levels of players are invited! Regardless of school, lineage, teacher,
experience, etc.
