In my PhD dissertation, you will find a discussion of and a number of
references to Ikkyu, as well as the complete texts in the original Japanese
and translated into English of several of his poems which refer to the
shakuhachi.
Murasakino Reibo, is attributed to him, but there is nothing in the
literature to back up this claim. Murasakino is a place in Japan, thus this
piece is the 'version of Reibo from Murasakino". "Reibo", as you probably
know, can be translated as "Yearning for the Bell".
My dissertation, "Yearning for the Bell; the Transmission of Honkyoku in
the Shakuhachi Tradition", focuses on a family of Reibo pieces. It can be
acquired through Monty Levenson (www.shakuhachi.com) or directly from UMI
in Michigan. You might also request your local university library to
purchase a copy.
Best regards, Riley
