Greetings,
Just a short note. I have three things to announce. See "Cloud Hands
Music" web site at the end of this e-mail for full details.
1) My friend Ray Brooks has written a fine memoir of his experiences
with shakuhachi in Japan. It's called "Blowing Zen: Finding an
Authentic Life". It's sincerely written and really worth reading. He
also has a new honkyoku CD available. See "News" section of site for
ordering info.
2) The 2nd annual shakuhachi summer camp will be in Boulder, CO.
DATES: Friday, June 16 to Tuesday, June 20, 2000.
LOCATION: The camp will again be held at Sunrise Ranch, a
400 acre
spiritual retreat and conference facility located near
Loveland in the
foothills of the Rocky Mountains, about 1.5 hours north of
Denver, Colorado
and Denver International Airport.
CAMP INSTRUCTORS: Yoshio Kurahashi, Riley Lee, Michael
Gould, David Wheeler
and Yoko Hiraoka (koto/shamisen).
3) My new CD "Primitive Heart" has been getting very good reviews and
is being broadcast on the NPR International program "Echoes". It's a
very hypnotic, rythmic world music recording. I feel it's my best so
far. I play shakuhachi and bamboo flutes with African drums, Brazilian
Berimbau, dunbeck, oud, viola etc. I'm joined by two very fine
musicians, Gary Haggerty and Will Dowd. See "Music CD" section for more
info.
That's it for now.
Best regards,
Peter Ross
