Dear Herb, David, Mari and Adam (and many others),

A breathing/relaxation/purification technique called "Misogi" is described
on our web page (http://www.ozemail.com.au/~andyshak/misogi.htm ).
This has been modified for shakuhachi players who may find this useful to
improve their sound and to release unwanted stress.

Also, as problems are often associated with wrists and elbows, flexibility
and strengthening exercises used in Aikido may also be found to be
effective.

An important aspect is that, as is the case for improvement of sound
quality, only by conscious checking during long-tone practice can important
points such as
these be incorporated into our general playing.

Andrew

PS apologies if you now have two copies of this message.
There were problems with our server yesterday.
