Yesterday I received a copy of the new Watazumi CD, "Mysterious
Sound of Bamboo Flute" [sic] in the mail from Mejiro. The cover
image shows Watazumi-do blowing a long flute, standing next to a
river. I thought the image looked familiar, so I went to check
out my CD collection and, sure enough, it's the same image as the
one on the "Art of the Japanese Bamboo Flute" CD (reveiewed here
a couple of years ago) except not cropped as closely.
Those of you who own the "Art of" CD (hereafter AJBF), know that
Watazumi plays nine of the 21 tracks on AJBF, but they sound like
someone dubbed them off an old, badly-misused 78 rpm record. While
these same tracks are on the new Watazumi CD (they're numbers 4
through 12), the quality on the new release is excellent.
Go get a copy!
