please forgive a rather naive question to which there is probably no
simple answer and
maybe pitch really isn't THAT important but:-
It seems there is quite a lot of apparently conflicting information on
the web about
how to calculate the position of toneholes . As every piece of bamboo is
individual I assume that exact positions are a matter of formula+(a lot
of)experience. But does
every maker/tradition use some (secret?) method passed on by their
teacher?
Having played around with the Benade/Hopkin algorithm for various bore
diameters
and hole sizes none of the "ratio" methods or measurements suggested at
various sites
seem to fit .... at least not for the whole length of the bamboo :-)
As it seems there is quite a lot of interest in shak. acoustics on the
web (esp the physicists in oz , + Mr Nelson Zink + Mr Levenson many
makers for whose web sites I say Thank You) would anyone like to share
their secrets or suggest sources of information?
