As a raw beginner, I really appreciate this... thanks very much!
I once sat down and played just Honshirabe over and over from all my
different CD's...
it was amazing the difference in styles from all the different artists that
I had recordings of...
each playing HONSHIRABE, but each artist very different, each stick of
bamboo different,
I remember being very surprised! and actually very happy, as I realized I
could hear
Honshirabe each time and it would be a completely different experience!

Last week my friend who does tea ceremony kindly prepared tea for my little
family and me...
the calligraphy on the wall said something like, "each time, one time"...
he said that it meant that each tea ceremony was a unique event, an event
that would never happen again...

like the leaves falling from the trees, each leaf unique, each with its own
history...
it is very sad, very beautiful...

  Subject: MAYBE

Probably we all hold within us, more or less, the full range of views so
far expressed.
Right-wrong, good-evil, black-white: it is sometimes convenient to retreat
to a position of apparent certainty.

A great shakuhachi teacher once told me that, to play shakuhachi, one must
learn to be comfortable with uncertainty . There is no good or bad sound,
right or wrong way to play. Some notes, in particular, are very mysterious
and are characterised by a high degree of uncertainty. They cannot be
defined by scientific parameters such a pitch, but rather by feeling.

Learn to accept the uncertainty of not knowing.
  Just Maybe.

  Andrew
