On the subject of viruses

Hello folks,

Well, once again someone has sent a virus-laden message to the list.

This is going to happen from time to time being as virus makers
are so prolific and software vendors (particularly on company
from Redmond WA who shall remain nameless but whose initals are M$)
refuse to write and sell good code.

When someone *does* send a virus to the list, there is no reason to
send another message telling us that a virus has been sent most of
us will know right away and more than 20 ISPs are now scanning mail
for virii (that is, 20 ISPs from the list - which covers more than
50% of the list subscribers).

I hope by now that we're all aware that a message that asks for
our advice is yet another instance of the SIRCAM virus.

What you can do to reduce the risks of virii is to stop using MS
Outlook. Every one of the significant viruses of the past five or
six years has been propagated by Outlook (just look for the line
in the header that says "X-Mailer"). Get a copy of Eudora or
Netscape and use it for your mail client.

Meanwhile, there have been some really good discussions here lately,
and I'm looking forward to hearing from Tom about the lengths of the
shakuhachi Yokoyama-sensei used on the Zen recordings.

Peace,

bj
